Relationship and Interpersonal Problems

Many individuals have interpersonal difficulties that impact their ability to adequately and confidently engage in relationships.  These interpersonal difficulties are often present across relationships, including friendships and at work and are amplified when two individuals with interpersonal difficulties enter a romantic relationship.  Some people begin to socially isolate, resulting in significant loneliness.

Individuals and couples often benefit from learning simple communication strategies.  However, when there are specific interpersonal deficits, such as problems with social skills, a more intensive program of treatment is required.

Some individuals require the help of a psychologist during specific periods of life, such as during role transitions or during separation and divorce (e.g., Collaborative Divorce). Others need help to work through issues related to grief whether it arises from the loss of a loved one due to death or from the end of a relationship. If you are not experiencing significant interpersonal problems, but simply want to learn more effective ways of dealing with others in your personal and occupational life, please see our Life Coaching section.

In addition to providing more traditional forms of couples therapy and interpersonal therapy, we also offer conflict resolution and mediation services.  Many of our therapists are also able to provide help with family and parenting issues.
