
Who is Maven?
Maven Health and Wellness consists of a number of psychologists and other health professionals who have specific training and expertise. Some of the services are provided directly through Maven Health and Wellness and other services are offered by health professionals with whom we partner. We also have a number of psychologists that work as consultants on specific cases requiring assessment or treatment services.
Dr. A. Michael Maclean
Dr. A. Michael Maclean is a licensed clinical and consulting psychologist with the Alberta College of Psychologists and the College of Psychologists of British Columbia. He is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and American Psychological Association. He received his Master's degree from the University of British Columbia in clinical psychology in 2000 and his Doctoral degree from the University of British Columbia 2004. He subsequently worked with the Calgary Health Region as a diagnostic consultant to psychiatry. This position involved assessment of some of the most complex cases seen on inpatient psychiatric units and often involved difficult differential diagnosis psychological disorders, as well as assessment of neurocognitive functioning. Dr. Maclean has applied his considerable training and experience to private practice assessments and has been involved in numerous insurance and injury cases. He also brings his specialized training in child development to custody and parenting evaluations. Dr. Maclean has had extensive education and experience in the treatment of anxiety and depression since beginning his doctoral training in 1998. Dr. Maclean strongly believes that his background in assessment is an important part of the treatment process because an accurate diagnosis directs subsequent treatment decisions. He has helped numerous individuals overcome panic, worry, OCD, social anxiety, PTSD, and Trichotillomania, as well as various other related problems. He primarily uses a cognitive behavioral and mindfulness approach and also utilizes schema therapy. In addition, Dr. Maclean utilizes his experience and training in Life Coaching to provide clients with direction. He has particularly enjoyed working with musicians and other artists who were seeking new inspiration.
Lisa Robinson Kitt
Lisa Robinson Kitt is a registered therapist in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a faculty member in the Criminology department at Kwantlen University College and has been a visiting lecturer at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. She completed her Master's degree at the University of British Columbia in Educational and Counselling Psychology in 2001 and is currently completing her doctoral training in Counselling Psychology. She has considerable training and experience as a clinician across a wide variety of problems and works with individuals, couples, families, and groups. Her current doctoral studies are evidence of her dedication to her on going professional development. She has received training in various treatment techniques, including cognitive behavioral, emotion-focused, self-regulation, EMDR, and somatic-focused treatments. Her studies and professional experiences have resulted in her approach to therapy that includes mind, body, emotions, spirit and environment working in relation. Her clients have commented that they appreciate being treated like a whole person rather than as a single problem to be solved. In short, she draws from her training and experience to provide an approach that integrates various therapeutic modalities in order to address the complexities of the unique individual. She often coordinates with other health professionals, including individuals with specialized training in energy and bodywork, particularly for those clients suffering from trauma related anxiety. She has particular expertise with regard to posttraumatic stress as well as related issues (e.g., burnout, secondary or vicarious trauma) and is able to provide specialized confidential services to front-line professionals (e.g., firefighters, EMTs, police officers, correctional officers, etc.). In addition to anxiety and depression, her expertise allows her to help clients dealing with grief and loss, relationship and family problems including specialized training in Collaborative Divorce, parenting issues, anger management, and some of the long-term emotional consequences of abuse (e.g., substance abuse, self injury, suicide impulses).
Dr. Tara Power
Dr. Tara Power is a clinical psychologist and former Lawyer. Her many years of training and experience have provided her with expertise in Health Psychology, Women's Issues, Decision Making and Psychosocial Oncology. She earned her graduate degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship from the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. She is a registered psychologist with the Alberta College of Psychologists and is an active member in the Canadian Psychological Association. She has been a professor and lecturer at several Universities, including The University of Western Ontario, Acadia University and Mount Saint Vincent University. She is currently a lecturer with the University of Calgary Departments of Psychology and Faculty of Medicine. Her breadth of clinical experience includes work in the areas of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, gynecological and breast cancer, phantom pain, medical decision making, relationships and sleep disorders. Dr. Power has particular expertise in providing consultation and counseling to women dealing with health issues, which are often related to mood and anxiety disorders, anger management difficulties, self-destructive behaviors and relationship concerns.
Dr. Robin S. Cox
Dr. Robin S. Cox obtained her doctorate in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2007 and has over 12 years of counselling and consulting experience. She is currently an Adjunct Faculty member with the Royal Roads University and the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Her approach to counselling weaves together cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, and narrative approaches in a holistic, client-centered and process orientated counseling framework. She combines insight-based counselling and life coaching styles in order to support clients enacting change in their lives. She has a fundamental and wholehearted belief in the integrity, worth, and resilience of the human spirit, and has worked from this perspective with a wide range of clients in individual counselling settings, and groups, as well as in workplace and community contexts. Her work is grounded in her faith in the transformative process of compassion, creativity, and the power of being wholeheartedly present with each other. She is ardently committed to working collaboratively with clients building a trusting relationship in order to identify and clarify their issues and concerns, develop goals, and realize these goals in action in their lives. Dr. Cox’s training and experience has focused on diverse client-issues that include supporting clients navigate life transitions, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationships and career issues. She has specific training in critical incident stress management, EMDR, and trauma response in disasters. Dr. Cox is an author and researcher with a specialized focus on the psychological, social, and behavioral health consequences of disasters and other traumatic/critical incidents, as well as the development of client-centered and community-led responses to such experiences. She is actively involved in the Canadian emergency response community as a trainer and a member of various policy and planning committees. In addition to working with individual clients, Dr. Cox is available as a consultant/trainer in Effective Communication, Critical Incident Stress Management, Psycho-social Emergency Planning for Organizations, and Creative Transition Planning.
Wania Wagner
Wania Wagner is a Registered Dietitian. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and after visting Canada in 1986 decided to stay. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Calgary in 1990. She was part of a molecular biology research team at the Foothills Research Centre and then at the Veterinary College at the University of Saskatchewan for 4 years. She obtained a second Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition in 1994 from the University of Saskatchewan. She completed a dietetics internship at Foothills Medical Centre and has since worked as a dietitian for the Calgary Health Region in several programs, including Best Beginning, Prenatal, Postnatal, Living Well with a Chronic Disease, and various pediatric community programs. She has also taught nutrition in the nursing program at Mount Royal College. She brings her vast experience and expertise to Maven clients in Calgary.
